Catharage
A downloadable game for Windows
Catharage is a space tactics extraction roguelite with looter and subsim elements. Pilot a large spaceship, engage enemy fleets, loot their wrecks for new weapons and equipment, then warp into more dangerous encounters!
The game is currently in alpha stages, as features are still subject to change. Content currently includes diverse space encounter generation with around 30 different POIs, 10 playable ships, three weapon types with a selection of perks to diversify their function, around 20 enemy types with different weapons and abilities, 4 categories of player equipment with several active abilities to use as well as two supercapital boss encounters.
In a typical session you'll select a ship, scavenge wrecks for gear, engage in combat and then warp to a new area to do it all again. Encounters increase in difficulty as you progress, so you'll have to carefully judge your chances. At any point you can choose to return home to bank your collected scrap, ending your session. Once home, you can then use scrap from salvage and credits from missions to upgrade your ship's stats, unlock new ships to fly or even hire other ships to come with you for the next run.
I'm currently solo developing the project in my free time, so updates may be sporadic. The current build is not highly optimized, so performance may vary. This is a personal project to make a game I like to play and to learn and improve my own game making abilities. Inspirations include Homeworld and EVE, Everspace / Galaxy on Fire, Enemy Starfighter / House of the Dying Sun as well tons of non-space games I like to play.
Notes about the current Build:
It does not feature an options menu, and will use your desktop resolution. Manually resizing the game window will lead to issues. Resolutions wider than 21:9 are currently not supported and will not work properly.
Camera controls can be inverted but not sensitivity adjusted. Inversion does not persist through resets.
Pressing "Escape" will immediately quit the game.
Pressing "R" will reset all progress and restart the game.
The controls are not rebindable.
Controllers are not fully supported, a pointer input is required to play.
The Tutorial is easy to break by doing things out of order, and is not very streamlined.
If you download and play, please let me know what you think!
